Project focus: The Fellow will examine whether people self-select into politically aligned artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots, and whether these systems, by surfacing different information to different users, are creating a new kind of echo chamber that threatens the shared factual foundation democracy depends on.
Victoria Oldemburgo de Mello holds a Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Toronto and a B.Sc. from the Federal University of Santa Catarina in Brazil. At Toronto, she was a doctoral fellow at the Schwartz Reisman Institute for Technology and Society and was supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
