Media Impact Funders Civic Science Fellow

Year

Project focus: The Fellow will turn what she learns about the role of public interest media in supporting science, health and civil society into guidance that funders can use in their own grant making.

Patricia Flores spent nearly seven years at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI), where her role focused on sharing CZI’s science funding, biomedical research, and technology with broader audiences. She led communications strategy across CZI’s multibillion-dollar science portfolio and built a $1.5 million science journalism grant-making portfolio supporting hyperlocal nonprofit newsrooms. She also served as Executive Lead of CZI’s Latino employee resource group. Patricia started her career in tech communications at Apple and Twitter, supporting global product launches and working with leading technology journalists. She also serves on the board of Acción Latina, a nonprofit publisher of California’s oldest bilingual newspaper, where she advises on fundraising and organizational strategy. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. Raised in San Antonio, Texas, and the proud daughter of immigrants from Peru, Patricia now lives in Chicago after spending a decade in the Bay Area.
